Pandemic is very pleased to present a solo exhibition, featuring the work of Brooklyn based artist Giles Thompson.

Inspired and formed from his love for abstract impressionism and other classic painting styles, Thompson's paintings push beyond the boundaries of normal artistic process and brings us into his somewhat warped world, full of juxtaposition and mystique. His spontaneous, seemingly simplistic painting style is as intense as the branded logos he implants into his pieces. He shows us a method stemming from cut and paste, but produced on a much larger scale. Appropriating well known pop iconography as well as other various invasive imagery, he mixes in his raw, unrefined painting style. Spastic lines with gargantuan brush strokes, relentless color formations and seemingly random patterns all come full circle and become clear the more you stare.

Thompson's work is a kind of visual commentary of the effects generated from the presence of the constant visual bombardment of advertisements and logos that are absorbed into our subconscious on a daily basis. His basic manipulation of these images paired with his loose, abnormally chaotic painting style makes the imagery take on new meanings and uncover new questions. Challenging the aesthetic of consumerism and arousing emotion in how we live our day to day lives. Vividly colorful, overflowing with cultural references and also involving the negation of imagery in a style all his own is the soapbox on which Giles' stands. The playfulness in his work is as charming as the intended ambiguity, he plays the roll of visual dictator over what he sees as beauty in this world. He challenges the viewer as he reconfigures the known, infuses the unknown and revels in creating a new presence, a new exposure to an unseen environment.

Giles Thompson, born in 1977, grew up in Oneida New York and received his BFA at the university of Colorado, he currently resides in Brooklyn.

Join us on Sat. Nov. 19th for the opening of "PAPERBOYS". An exhibition featuring new works by the artists & collaborators Labrona, OverUnder and ND'A. Each artist is known for their free and spontaneous styles when painting outdoors, where you may wander upon ND'A's large, cartoonish murals in Bushwick or catch one of Labrona's Mona Lisa-esque portraits and OverUnder's birds as they fly by you on the side of a Trans American freight. Yet it is when these friends put their paint to paper & canvas that they have the luxury of time to fully develop and explore the themes and influences that have launched their work to international notoriety. For Paperboys, Labrona experiments with new spray painting techniques and layering to achieve looks that transmute between impressionistic, almost abstract forms to his colorfully combined take on surreal realism. In OverUnder's gouache on butcher paper paintings, he invites the viewer on a tour of his favorite painting spots as he re-visits & re-creates a year spent in almost perpetual motion. ND'A works with bold black lines and sloppy, joyful fills to playfully analyze and critique his transition from street artist into a gallery ready painter. Though their mediums, styles and influences may differ, this trio of artists is brought together by an enduring love for creating art for art's sake that has propelled them into a shared lifestyle of artistic freedom, transcending the limitations of lives more ordinary.

If you have been walking around the streets of manhattan in the last 10 years then you undoubtedly have come across the eerie zombie imagery of Wrona. A constant in the street art scene, his stickers have been adorning lamp posts and scaring children since the early 2000's and continue to cast their dead-eyed glare to all who pass by. Unknown to most is the fiendish artwork that accompany's these grim images of the undead. Inspired by horror movies and the macabre, Wrona's paintings combine old school comic book drawing techniques coupled with painterly wisdom, Including a touch of depravity and humor. A world of zombies and dark entity's who's ghastly presence draws you to the world beyond ours and the horrors that keep us up at night.

Please join us for a night of dark art and undead fantasies as we present Wrona's "Pretty Horrible". For the event Pandemic is releasing a short run of collaborative stickers combining the images of Wrona's original "zombie" and Pandemic's "Dracula Fish" that will be available the night of the show. The gallery should resemble nothing short of a crypt and with halloween being so close we encourage all zombie enthusiasts to dress accordingly. Hope to see you there, dripping with blood!

THOMAS BUILDMORE

Thomas Buildmore received his diploma from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in 2004. Since then, Buildmore has taken part in and/or curated many fine art installations in a variety of arenas, receiving acclaim from publications such as The Boston Globe, The Boston Herald, The New York Daily News, And the Philadelphia Inquirer. In 2007 Buildmore established Overkill Studio in South Boston, Massachusetts. In 2008, Overkill Studio relocated to Philadelphia. In 2010 Thomas Buildmore co-founded Stupideasy Studio in Old City Philadelphia with fellow Artist/Photographer Dan King.

ABBY GOODMAN

Abby Goodman was born in 1972 in Philadelphia, PA. Desire to learn metallurgy led her to the French Alps, where she apprenticed an ironworker. Upon returning she accepted a job as a welder at a bronze foundry executing bronze sculptures for the public arena. Goodman continued her training at Syracuse University, where she earned a MFA, then moved to New York City.
Goodman creates sculptures, paintings, and mixed media installations to share her experiences. She has been included in several publications, including New American Paintings, the New York Times and the cover of Studio Visit Magazine. Her most recent exhibitions include WE COME FROM BROOKLYN, at the Galerie allerART in Bludenz, Austria, 20 in 11 at the Woodward Gallery in NYC, Party At Lucky Chengs, a solo exhibition in the LZ Project Space, and An Island Now Peopled, a two-person show at the Chashama Chelsea Project Space. Goodman was recently represented as a featured artist through Rush Arts Gallery for the Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series. Goodman is a current resident in the Chashama Studio Residency Program.

Hailing from NYC, Ellis Gallagher is a graffiti and fine artist best know for his chalk outline shadow drawings he executes on the streets of New York and all over the country.

EL HASE

El Hase is one of the first traditional graffiti and urban artist in Venezuela, developing a personal style throughout the streets of Caracas, his hometown. In 1999, while studying Graphic Design he began diversifying his artistic talent away from works based on pure intuition towards more ellaborate concepts in order to enrich the basic graffiti style with other techniques, thus incorporating stencils, prints, etchings and digital media. Hase’s current artistic work is conceptually based in the imagery of Boxing, horror movies, Venezuelan popular aestethics. He's been working in a series entitled "La Lucha" (The Struggle). These works incorporate elements aluding to venezuelan boxing icons, figures whose lives parallel with

those of ordinary people who are out in the street in constant struggle such as graffiti artists, skateboarders and others.

El Hase has participated in Solo and Art shows in Venezuela, Barcelona, New York, and Los Angeles.

W.T.Porter is an artist, designer, and builder.

From a young age, I learned the art of deconstruction and reconstruction while working on houses with his father. That philosophy of resurrecting “newness” out of old things has had the most profound influence on my work and my daily life.

My first sculptures worthy of note were assemblages of odds and ends I found while walking the train tracks, in the garbage, in antique stores, and among my fathers dusty collection of hardware. I arranged these objects into old boxes to create tiny worlds full of hidden meaning.

JOHN SKIBO

John Skibo through out his youth lived in Wyoming, Colorado, Boston, Texas and New
York. He earned his Bachelors degree and several awards, grants, and scholarships from
Massachusetts College of Art and Design before graduating with honors and distinction
in 2009. Through his travels across the United States, and as far as China and South
Africa, he developed in interest in the ideas of the home, the landscape, and the visual
and metaphysical changes that give form to the environment. His work is the result
of applying these ideas to the medium of painting. Much of his invention comes from
collage, drawing, and changes that occur in the creative process. Each piece of artwork
represents what he feels are connections he has with his surroundings, and the often
incongruous nature of those connections.

SOFIA MALDONADO

Sofia Maldonado, born in Puerto Rico (1984). Her paintings, drawings, murals, installations, and painted objects are informed by an urban sensibility that draws inspiration from aspects of street and youth culture, fashion and commercial design, public art, abstraction and pop art, identity politics, and post-feminist art practice. Maldonado’s work first bursts onto the local art scene in Puerto Rico in the early 2000s through her imaginative and distinct wheat-pastes and murals adorning the dilapidated walls of abandoned storefronts and buildings in Old San Juan and elsewhere throughout the City. Her colorful liquidity pop abstractions often populated by a highly stylized cast of ultra feminine super heroines with Rapunzel-like tresses that cascade like ribbons evincing the Caribbean’s lush foliage immediately set her apart from other street artists.

Recent exhibitions include The SFiles at Museo del Barrio Biennale, NY; Beyond Bling, Ringling Muesum of Art; (R)amped, Wisconsin University; Synesthsia, Painted Bride, Philadelohia; Real Pubic, Real Art Ways, CT; Graphopoli, Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico; the 10^th Havana Biennale, Cuba; and a mural for the Time Square Alliance in New York City.

Well it's been hot... DAMN HOT! The heat has beaten us yet again. But the summer is about to start winding down into fall, and to the eventual cold grip of winter. So in celebration... or acceptance... of this annual de-swelter we are hosting a multimedia group show with 9 great artists hailing from New York and Philadelphia. With work ranging from painting, printmaking, sculpture and installation, as well as murals painted directly on the gallery walls. What the #%*@ is BOXHOCKEY you ask? It is a glorious, homemade, indoor/ outdoor game played with two sticks and a hockey puck. The rules are simple, score! Slightly similar in play to Air-hockey or Foosball but completely in a league of it's own.

BOXHOCKEY has proven to be the gnarliest party game we have come to know. We have teamed up with the Inventor, Derek Pippin, a rather sophisticated gentleman who came up with the original BOXHOCKEY, set. Bringing you a show of epic proportions all based around wild game play and having an awesome time.

Besides the sets we will have installed and set up for live gaming, we will be displaying 10 custom painted sets from 10 different NYC street and fine artists. Guaranteed to be a raucous engagement!!

"Identity Theft" New public art installation by Leon Reid IV

"Identity Theft" depicts a 14ft sculpture of a cat burglar creeping on a Brooklyn rooftop pillaging a social media profile picture as often used to symbolize identity on sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Inspired by a recent robbery in his own building complex, Reid decided to place the concept of theft in a 21st century context, whereby personal information is often more vulnerable than personal property.

¡NO HABLA ESPAÑOL! is El Celso’s most personal show to date. This new series of works was inspired by a recent trip to Peru where the artist became obsessed with posters made in the “chicha” style. These hand-made posters line city streets all over Peru and generally feature an eye-popping neon color palette and commercial graphics-inspired lettering. They are generally used to advertise working class concerts and other events. During a recent trip around Peru, in 2010, Celso began collecting discarded and out-of-date fragments of these posters – known as afiches chicha in Spanish – from the streets of towns such as Chachapoyas, Chiclayo, Cajamarca and Lima (to name a few).

Further inspired by their look, he established contact with the esteemed Fortunato Urcuhuaranga at Publicidad Viusa (publicidadviusa.com.pe), the print workshop that originated this iconic DayGlo look back in the 1980s. (Urcuhuaranga is a former radio DJ and he originally created these posters to advertise his station’s musical happenings.) Based on the outskirts of Lima, in the suburb of San Juan, Ate, this renowned family-run studio has produced posters for countless local Peruvian acts, as well as visual artists and arts organizations around the world.

In collaboration with the Urcuhuarangas, Celso created a series of posters inspired by the Peruvian chicha style. However Celso’s posters are a wry play on the idea of the advertisement: event posters created for non-events. Since last year, he has installed dozens of these on the streets of New York and Miami.

His exhibit and installation at the Pandemic Gallery will feature these colorful pieces, as well as fragments of the original Peruvian street posters that inspired them. Also on display will be a series of intricate collages on wood that recreate the feel of the way these posters inhabit the street. Most importantly, the show will feature a diminutive discotheque – a free-standing structure that will feature light, sound and wild graphics. All of it will serve as a tribute to contemporary Peruvian nightlife culture.

About El Celso

Born in Newark, NJ and based in Brooklyn, El Celso has long running interests in comic books, Expressionist painting, public intervention and motorcycling. His work has been featured, on more than one occasion, in ARTnews Magazine. His 2009 conceptual piece “Art Burn” was covered in both The Art Newspaper and the Miami Herald. The New York Timesdescribed his 2008 exhibition, “Post No Bills,” a street art gallery installation in Long Island City as “audacious.” His colorful, figurative works are also featured in numerous publications, books, and web sites. Thus, collectively representing a body of work, where each artist’s individual styles are connected through the rendering of exquisite pieces using bold and vivid color. Delivering their distinctive interpretations of reality to Brooklyn and beyond.

David M. Cook
Born in Louisville Kentucky in 1972, relocated to Brooklyn NY in 2003.

“I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. In the last few years, my work
has been based primarily in pattern and color, using imagery taken from nature, the
occult, punk rock, and heavy metal. These influnces have been used individually in
my work, but in the last few years they have started to blend themselves together.
Because these influences have been running through my head as far back as I can
remember, the motifs I’ve used individually before has allowed me to follow a new
direction of starting to develop, and follow more of a narrative revisited as subject
matters in my newer work. In one of my last projects, the narrative was based on
the love-hate relationship between a queen and a two-headed king, in a mythical world inhabited by snake horses, 6 legged priestesses, and countless warriors.
It has been incredible for me to watch the quality of my work develop, and I hope

taken on more religious iconography (another reappearing theme in my work) with

Chrissy Angliker

Chrissy Angliker was born in Zurich, Switzerland, and raised in Greifensee and Winterthur. Her artistic inclinations emerged at an early age, as she experimented with stone, clay, and found objects among other materials. Beginning in 1996 she was fortunate to study with the Russian artist Juri Borodachev, who became her artistic mentor for several years. In 1999 at age 16, Chrissy moved to the US to study Fine Art at the Walnut Hill School in Natick, Massachusetts. In 2002 at age 19, Chrissy had her first solo show at Gallery Juri in Winterthur, Switzerland. Seeking to broaden her means of expression, she then pursued a degree in Industrial Design at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. The skills she developed there, including three-dimensional design, relationships between objects, and creating character through form, continue to influence her artwork, and vice versa. Chrissy's design work includes furniture, lighting, product design, way-finding, display design, graphic design and branding. After spending her post-graduate years working in the design field, Chrissy's creative expression shifted back to painting in 2008. Since then she has cultivated her artwork in addition to her pursuits in the design realm. Chrissy's work in both art and design reflect her spiritual, political, and humanitarian perspective. Her work has been featured in several international publications.

Jessica Hess
Rather than elegance or grandeur, my focus lies in structure, simplicity, and decay. In practice I work with photographs, which serve as both a reference and a starting point. My work develops from an accumulation of images and impressions of urban, industrial, and abandoned architecture. Some paintings are made with fidelity to the original source, while others are reinvented, compiled, and manipulated. Over time the works become subconscious collages of material and combinations of locations from years of collecting images and observations.

I am attracted primarily to utilitarian buildings where engineering takes precedence over aesthetics. Many of my subjects are vacant or disused, and beautiful in these states of neglect. Although the paintings are devoid of human life, the structures and sites I work with bear witness to a human presence and the dynamic nature of the urban environment. Their surfaces reflect the visual call and response of graffiti, as well as the slower processes of weathering and deterioration.

My inclusion of street art documents and makes permanent these otherwise transitory public works. By painting graffiti laden sites I am participating in an anonymous collaboration with other artists and giving a quiet nod of appreciation to street art. All street art evidences creative traffic and the time invested by others on my otherwise lonely subjects, adding color and excitement to otherwise dull locations. In reworking and transforming these locations my paintings further this collaboration of time, structure, and surface.

Erin McCarty
Emotive, celebratory, dark, and intimate, my work highlights the unusual beauty of environments and creatures both real and imagined. Influenced largely from the patterns and colors occurring naturally in the outside world as well as within our body system, my paintings communicate the excitement, grandeur, and terror of human life and the unknown. Originally born and raised in Valdez, Alaska, I now live and work in Portland, Oregon.

Korakrit Arunanondchai
Korakrit Arunanondchai was born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand. He graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2009 and is now a first year MFA student at Columbia University. Currently living and working in Harlem, his current body of work explores painting processes, the mirror, his addiction to video games and fantasies of growing up. His studio practice incorporates late 90's and early 2000's video game logic and decision making.

Joshua Citarella
Joshua Citarella, age 24, is a native of New York State and a New York City based artist. He holds a BFA in photography from the School of Visual Arts. His recent work examines representation, often using the familiarity of the human form as a comparative framework to explore the methods through which meaning is encoded within the image.

Julian Duron
Hailing from Texas, Julian Duron is 29 years old and currently resides in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. He moved to New York in 2005 to study fine art at the New School, graduating with a BFA in 2010. Julians creates multimedia instillations inspired by technology and the internet culture.

Jack Greer
Jack Greer is 23 years old and originally from Los Angeles. He came to New York 5 years ago to attend Pratt Institute where he received a BFA in Drawing in 2009. Currently residing in the East Village, his work draws on feeling of nostalgia. Whether it is comforting or depressing, the vast changes that occur within a persons life function as the foundation for his art.

Sandy Kim
25 years old and originally from San Francisco. Sandy Kim attended the Academy
of Art University graduating with a BFA in graphic design. In 2010 she moved to Brooklyn to work as an independent photographer. She enjoys
taking snapshots of her friends with an Olympus Stylus Epic.

Leah Meltzer
Leah Meltzer is an artist who works in photography, video art, sculpture installation and performance. While attending Parsons School of Design and Eugene Lang College in New York City, her work was featured as part of Bushwick Arts Project's 2010 Open Studios. She is currently residing in New Orleans where she has been working on larger scale installations. Her work is a result of a preoccupation with art history, philosophy, and pop culture.

Edouard Nardon
Born in France, 30 year old Edouard Nardon moved to New York in 2008, he currently lives and works in Bushwick, Brooklyn. His work is a dialogue between the tensions generated by pride and weakness, emotions and attitudes, moral conscience and instinctive desire.

Grear Patterson
22 years of age and originally from Redding, Connecticut. Grear Patterson grew up in Hillsborough North Carolina where he first began shooting super 8 video and mini DV at age 13. He has studied at both Duke University and the School of Visual Arts in New York City where he currently lives and works.

Victor Payares
Originally from Miami, 25 year old Victor Payares is currently living and working in Brooklyn, New York. After receiving a BFA in Fine Art from the Miami International University of Art & Design in 2007, he relocated to New York in 2010. His paintings explore the limitless visual amusement that is offered through the versatility and dynamic nature of painting techniques.

Evan Robarts
27 years of age, Evan Robarts was Born and raised in Miami Beach Florida. He moved out to Brooklyn, New York in 2001 where he currently lives and works. Receiving his BFA in sculpture in 2008, his work examines the relationship between the creative process and

the materials he works with.

In his first solo show, Veng takes us back to simpler times, to an era when things were made to last. Inspired by the artistry and work ethic of his grandfather, who hailed from a family of Swedish carpenters, Veng’s detail-rich paintings focus on the craftsmanship of the handmade. Embracing the handmade aesthetic to the fullest for this exhibition, Veng had custom mahogany panels built and crafted his own paints from simple pigments and linseed oil. Blurring the lines between the substantive and the imaginary, his paintings depict a world populated by a cast of stoic characters and whimsical winged creatures that interact with wooden contraptions more phantasmagorical than real. Drawing equally on the Old Masters and modern-day illustrators, Veng’s work possesses a timelessness not often captured by his contemporaries.

Born on Staten Island in 1981, Veng began studying painting as a young kid at a local art league. Since then, painting has remained an integral part of his life. With his work, he looks to capture the feel of something made long ago, be it characters with old-fashioned appearances or objects with Old World designs. He depicts ideas in his paintings in a representational and faithful manner, yet conveys them visually with a whimsical touch.

Borrowing from techniques of the Northern Renaissance, Veng paints by building up multiple layers. His thought process for painting, however, is less traditional and very much informed by his background in street art. He aims to make surreal impressions, with characters whose square heads are on the one hand very unreal, yet whose facial features are eerily familiar. He enjoys depicting scenes showing the viewer fictitious landscapes of an Old World interspersed with contemporary qualities. Nature also plays an important role in Veng’s work. He shows animals in a more traditional manner, painting them with realistic colors and textures. Often he’ll couple animals with imaginary devices that they control.

Whether on a panel in the studio or on a wall in a city, through his work Veng tries to convey a playful world of mixed inspirations.

Richie Lasansky and Allison Read Smith

Richie Lasansky

Born in La Paz, Bolivia, while his parents were in the peace corps, Lasansky’s interest in drawing and art stems from an age when he could first hold a pencil. His parents being music and dance performers, he traveled around with them, constantly drawing everything he saw. For a while he thought his interest in animals would lead him to a career in science. After graduation from Hebron Academy, he studied biology at Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass., but upon graduation, moved to Iowa to study printmaking formally with his grandfather – Mauricio Lasansky. He spent eight years in this apprenticeship.

As a printmaker, Lasansky feels many artists are not involved in an important creative aspect of the process by allowing their work to be printed by others. He prefers the complete approach. Intaglio printmaking is “such a sensual, tactile medium that if you don’t get your hands dirty and experience the feel of drawing on copper and printing the plate, you’ll never really know what the medium can do.” Lasansky makes all his ink from scratch. This personal investment in the process is evident in his work. “A lot of artists’ work is heavily conceptual now, but mine is process-oriented,” said Lasansky. “It’s mostly figurative, not abstract.” He’s not one to analyze his art beyond that, however, preferring to quote his grandfather: “Artists and fish die the same way, by the mouth.” Lasansky has lived in Costa Rica, New Hampshire, but was raised mostly in Maine, including a year on the Island of Vinalhaven. He now lives with his wife in Brooklyn.

Allison Read Smith

Allison Read Smith was born and raised in Memphis, TN and has lived and worked in NYC for the past twelve years.
Merging Southern storytelling with the more brisk pace of New York she has generated a body of work that uses pedestrian materials, such as newspaper, magazines, postal stamps, cardboard, and rubber. For this exhibition she relies mainly on roofing rubber to generate a cartoonish, malleable dark humor. Her work has an intoxicating effect as the imagery she puts forth draw so many questions for the viewer. Asking what is really relevant and meaningful in our day to day lives. As a sculptor she combines many different elements into three dimensional creations of skewed beauty and wondrous theory. Pushing past the antiquated confines of sculptural work and into her own realm of an almost intangible essence.

Raised by squirrels in a musty old barn located deep in the woods of upstate NY, Dan taylor's work is heavily influenced by the anatomical forms of the animal kingdom. In his drawings, sculptures, and mixed media works, Taylor treats organs and musculoskeletal structures as unique environments, which may be fused with other natural forms, as well as occasional unexpected consumerist elements. His taxidermy creations with handmade construction and framing give off a twisted sense of the macabre, and warps your sense of perception. Some day, the artist's own remains will be stuffed and put on display to scare children.

Vilaykorn Sayaphet was born in Laos and emigrated to the United States in 1982. He grew up where his family settled, in Greensboro, North Carolina. He was quickly and heavily influenced by American culture, but at home was taught very traditional Laotian values; as a result, Vil was conflicted, leading two separate lives. He developed a kind of split in his personality, a way to accommodate his parents and yet to also adapt to the new culture around him. His experiences from those early years gave way to his artistic visions. Art was a way to reflect on his past while looking into the future. Vil pursued the formal study of art at High Point University, where he received a BFA, and later obtained an MFA at UNC Greesnboro. He continues to be influenced by all aspects of art, from the street to conceptual and fine art.

For his first solo exhibition, “Split Personality,” Vilaykorn embraces a painterly vision, while also showing his more playful and illustrative side. In this split series, one half draws towards the abstract/ impressionist influence. These pieces, painted with feeling and emotion, are his more serious and steadfast works. In the other half of the series, he draws from life as an observer, working his day job and finding some artistic escape whenever he can. The combination of the two styles provides a unique look into the mind of an artist as he makes his way through life…

Beginning on August 27th, Pandemic Gallery will present "Amalgamation," a solo show by Eddie Ochoa. A Texas native, Ochoa has previously exhibited at Fl!ght Gallery in San Antonio; since relocating to New York, Ochoa also participated in a group show at 21LUDLOW in the Lower East Side.

Amalgamation is the process of combining or uniting multiple entities into one form. Ochoa's work does exactly that -- his imagery draws from various mystical, religious and folklore traditions, and his method combines various media, including acrylic and watercolor paint, ink, and scrapbooking paper. These highly-detailed and multi-dimensional layered works draw the viewer into the many planes (both physical and imaginary) of Ochoa's other-worldly dreamscapes. "Amalgamation" will also feature Ochoa's drawings on tracing paper, thereby offering viewers a rare opportunity to gain understanding of an artist's process simultaneous with the presentation of the finished works.

On Friday, August 27th, from 7pm to 11pm, Pandemic will host the "Amalgamation" opening reception, sponsored by Pabst Blue Ribbon. "Amalgamation" will then run from Saturday, August 28th through Saturday, September 18th.

Shock therapy is an attempt to regain control. while everything may seem to be spiraling towards disaster, there are methods to shock it all back in place. Over the years the term has been used to describe methods of medical, financial, and economic rebound, as well as psychological molding. As we see it, Shock Therapy through art is a way to Instill upon others an instant sense of our passion and our desire to create. But also a way to overcome any subconscious hang-ups, to let go and be released from mental confines. A way to control the chaos, while still pushing the envelope. Shocking ourselves and the viewers straight and askew in tandem with a visual onslaught, so that they may see as we do the perplex, all encompassing world we live in.

ENAMEL KINGDOM
Enamel Kingdom is Artist/Designer Ryan Lombardi
Born in Indianapolis Indiana in 1980, Ryan's family then moved to the Boston area when he was one year old and that's were they decided to stay. With strong interests in Commercial Art, Graphic Design, and illustration, he headed for the "City of brotherly love" to attend Art Institute of Philadelphia. Through the introduction by a mutual friend, he hooked up with the international Artist collective Project SF in 2005.

Now Ryan lives in Boston, paying the bills with design and painting on the side. His works consist of various enamels applied to found objects such as: wood, metal, fiberglass... and any surface with normally underestimated aesthetic potential. Mainly influenced by urban settings, wild life and hip-hop culture, Ryan continues to draw from any other elements exposed from day to day life for inspiration.

KENJI NAKAYAMA
Kenji Nakayama is an artist originally from Hokkaido, Japan...

Documenting the environment that surrounds him, he spends weeks to hand craft his hand-cut multi-layer stencil work. Kenji flawlessly captures significant moments in his daily life. Serving as a diary from start to finish, his work is deeply personal.

Kenji is currently working and residing in Boston, Massachusetts. Showing his work both inside and outside of Boston.

MORGAN THOMAS

Hailing from Philadelphia, PA, Morgan Thomas has spent the majority of her life in observation of the people around her. She has studied art and art history around the world and graduated in 2007 from Williams College with two degrees (in studio art and sociology). Thomas’ main subject is human but she strives to examine human action, emotion, history and communication further than the classic portrait. Utilizing a semiotic vocabulary built up through the existence of the human race, Thomas records the world around her as she perceives it visually and spiritually. She aims to communicate to her audience the honest image and heartfelt meaning of a moment in time as it can be understood through form, color, and symbolic imagery. Thomas’ work is sociological, allegorical, and historical record. It does not try to comment on an event, but rather represent it for the audience to bring judgement to.

THOMAS BUILDMORE
Thomas Buildmore received his diploma from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in 2004. Since then, Buildmore has taken part in and/or curated many fine art installations in a variety of arenas, receiving acclaim from publications such as The Boston Globe, The Boston Herald, The New York Daily News, And the Philadelphia Inquirer. In 2007 Buildmore established Overkill Studio in South Boston, Massachusetts. In 2008, Overkill Studio relocated to Philadelphia with Thomas Buildmore and Morgan Thomas at the helm. They are enjoying the lively and energetic Philadelphia Arts Community.

In an urban environment, people find themselves surrounded, yet estranged. Given the volume of interpersonal contact city dwellers experience, whether virtual or physical, most goes unaddressed or is instantly forgotten. Privacy, space, interaction, and intimacy are redefined, often defying one's social expectations. Unintentional or unwanted interaction can occur when private acts take place in public, and in spite of our stifling proximity to each other, genuine connections may be difficult to achieve. The artists in Stand Clear of the Closing Doors are interested in the ways that urbanites interact, and their work invites each of us to engage with art, the city, and each other in new and challenging ways.
